“Talks at the Schomburg: Lorraine Hansberry and Reimagining the Biography

As an activist and playwright, much has been gleaned from Lorraine Hansberry’s creative output, but less about the confluence of her political thoughts and principles that undergird her process. In 2018, the world will learn more about Hansberry through new biographies in the form of print and film.
Biographers Margaret B. Wilkerson, PhD, Imani Perry (Hughes-Rogers professor of African American studies at Princeton University), Soyica Colbert (Chair of the Department of Performing Arts, Director of Theater and Performance Studies and an Associate Professor of African American Studies and Theater and Performance Studies at Georgetown University, Lorraine Hansberry: Artist/Activist [Forthcoming]) and Tracy Heather Strain (Filmmaker and Peabody Award Winner; Director of Lorraine Hansberry: Sighted Eyes/Feeling Heart, 2017) will discuss the importance of Lorraine Hansberry and presenting a biography. The conversation will be moderated by Joy-Ann Reid, author, journalist and host of AM Joy. A pop-up exhibition and reception will be available to the public.
