Beginning July 1, 2017, Arizona State University (ASU)—together with the Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY)–will lead HASTAC in the organization’s next phase of “changing the way we teach and learn.” After twelve productive years at Duke, the Nexus Digital Research Co-op will now co-host HASTAC at ASU in partnership with the Graduate Center. Since its creation in 2013, Nexus has partnered with HASTAC on important projects, including hosting the 2016 HASTAC conference. We can think of no better home for HASTAC than with the innovative and creative scholars at Arizona State University.
HASTAC’s new co-director will be Dr. Jacqueline Wernimont, Assistant Professor of English and Director of Nexus at ASU. Wernimont’s innovative work on digital humanities, feminist digital media, histories of quantification, and technologies of commemoration make her a perfect fit to co-direct HASTAC, an organization dedicated to using technology to foster collaborative thinking, teaching, and research.
ASU will be HASTAC’s fifth partner since the organization’s inception in 2002. We bid a very fond farewell to Duke University, an institution that has generously fostered HASTAC’s development since 2005. “Duke University is proud to have hosted HASTAC during a period of impressive growth and influence,” said Edward Balleisen, Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Studies at Duke University. “We have no doubt that Arizona State University will build on that success in years to come.”
Administration at Arizona State University enthusiastically welcome the addition of HASTAC to the university’s thriving intellectual community. “HASTAC is an extraordinary network with a powerful vision to change the ways we teach and learn. Among its many remarkable features is the distribution of that vision throughout the network, from the founding co-directors, to the dedicated staff, and everywhere in the communities of HASTAC thinkers, makers, and advocates,” said ASU Dean of Humanities and Associate Vice President of Arts and Humanities, George Justice. “Arizona State University shares this vision, and we’re eager to work alongside our friends at the Graduate Center, CUNY to lead and expand the network. It’s a fantastic opportunity.”
