Welcome back to the new academic year! We are excited to continue working with you as part of the HASTAC Scholars program.
Allow us to introduce ourselves: we are Coline Chevrin and Parisa Setayesh, and we are taking over this year as the HASTAC Scholars Program Co-Directors. We are both doctoral students in the Earth and Environmental Sciences program at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center. We are looking forward to getting to know you all better and supporting your work this year. We know you will continue pursuing innovative projects that push boundaries and bring new perspectives to technology, arts, humanities, and sciences.
This year, we want to build on the strong foundation from previous years while also evolving programming based on your feedback and interests. Please follow us on Twitter (HASTAC Scholars and HASTAC), and share any ideas you have for events, initiatives, collaborations, or other ways we can enhance the scholar experience. We aim for HASTAC Scholars to provide a space for you to create, take risks, and thrive. Our goal is to empower you to drive change and make an impact in your fields and communities. We are confident this supportive scholar community will inspire you this year.
Join us for the HASTAC Scholars welcome event on Thursday, September 21st at 4 p.m. (Register here) for an introduction to a few of our signature programs that you can get involved with this year.
So you may be wondering, “How do I get involved?” Dive right in! You are a leader who takes initiative, and you were selected for your keen ability to communicate effectively across platforms and your brilliant creativity is what holds you. Here are a few simple ways to get started:
- Start by building Your Profile on HASTAC and posting an introductory blog post. You want to completely fill out your HASTAC profile. Here’s a brief tutorial on registering a profile on our new site, now part of the Humanities Commons. Share your research interests, a favorite course you took, career aspirations, hobbies, or whatever information that is important to you for your introductory blog! Within the next week, we will add you to a HASTAC Scholars group on HASTAC. Be sure to add the post to the HASTAC Scholars group by checking the appropriate box before publishing. That way, fellow Scholars will be able to more easily see your posts.
- Digital Fridays are informal virtual get-togethers to workshop projects, exchange ideas, and build community. We do up to two Digital Fridays per semester. You will have the opportunity to participate in new Digital Friday events this year, and we look forward to hearing about your work!
- Scholar Spotlight is a chance to highlight you and your projects on the HASTAC Scholars site. Let us know if you would like to be featured in an upcoming Scholar Spotlight!
- Collaborative Book Review is a group project where scholars will review a book together, interview the writers if possible, and publish their reviews on the site.
We will discuss these options further during our welcome event on September 21st, after which you will be able to sign up to participate in one or more of the activities.
If you have any questions, you can reach us at scholars@hastac.org. We look forward to seeing the groundbreaking work you will continue doing as HASTAC scholars.
Warm regards,
Coline Chevrin and Parisa Setayesh
HASTAC Scholars Program Co-Directors
